Of sunlight, Of sunlight

Hello,
This is an attempt at layering a longer shirt under a shorter jacket- something I never do. However, after rolling up the sleeves I really liked the result. I really love the details on this jacket (the pockets and buttons). And I feel the pinstripes underneath the green added a unique touch that polished the whole outfit. (I know I just started a sentence with a conjunction, I apologize for my poor grammar.) I then just added jeans and converse to keep it simple and comfortable.

The beauty of the Underwood

Hello again,
I am sorry I haven't posted recently, but I'm back! I know you're happy.

This outfit made me feel very high-school-newspaper-editor-in
-the-50's. Perhaps I don't look like that to anyone aside from myself, but that's what inspired these pictures. When I was a lot younger I asked my parents for a typewriter for the holidays. For some reason that was all I wanted in the entire world. I don't know where I got the idea, but it seized me, and I was consumed. I couldn't have specified what type or model I wanted. Just that I wanted the ability to type and hear that indelible "CLUNK CLUNK" with each keystroke. As luck would have it I received one very bulky oddly shaped package. Inside was this magnificent black iron Underwood. The typewriter had belonged to my aunt previously, and my grandmother before her, and my great-grandfather before her. It is approximately 80 years old. My grandfather got it in the early 1900's and my grandmother lugged it around college with her. (something I still don't fully understand; it weighs about 50 lbs.)

Incredibly, the thing still works. Sure you have to attack the keys with a violence usually reserved for tenderizing meat, and yeah, the bell doesn'
t usually ring when you reach the end of a line, but it still puts words on the page. Even more incredibly, did you know they still sell typewriter tape at staples? Check it out next time you're there. So here's to the good things that last generations. And the feeling of being able to type the next great classic as long as there's enough ink tape.

Lazy Sunday

Hello again,

I had a very lazy weekend. I spent most of my time sleeping, reading, and drinking coffee. But really what else do you need in life? Perhaps I'll pay for my perendination later, but at the moment I am quite content.

I am going to take a brief divergence from all things fashion today to comment on how much I love newspapers. Now maybe that makes me really weird and potentially even uncool, but I really don't care. There is nothing more fantastic in this world then reading the Sunday New York Times with a cup of coffee. I love having the ability to page through and simply read and discover what ever is there. Ok so yeah, I'm a nerd. Now for those of you who are naysayers, I have a secret for you. there is a section of the newspaper called the
Sunday Styles which is predominantly about- you guessed it- style! It features stories about fads in clothing, contains pictures of the latest on the runway, and what normal people are wearing or doing now. I highly suggest you check it out now. And buy a starbucks coffee while you're at it.

On another note- my outfit. I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures, they were taken just at dusk, so eveything is dark, even though the sky was absolutely beautiful. One thing I love about my outfit is how it looks so put together, but its so comfortable. I'm simply wearing leggings and a big t-shirt, but by throwing on a leather jacket, scarf, and earings, manage to look really cool. (At least I think so.)

Think I Can Receive Radio Signals from This?

So after ranting about shoes, let's move a little farther north. Hair, people, I'm talking about hair (perverts). Or rather, what you put in it. I agree that the shift in hair trends marches to the same beat as the change in fashion throughout the years, but there is one fad I will never embrace. Presenting:

No.

NO.

Stop that.

Just - no.

There are no words. Except for these. Listen, I love you Marc Jacobs, but I do not love your crazy headbands that emulate the look of someone using Bugs Bunny's ears to practice his Boy Scout knots in the hopes of earning a few merit badges. I appreciate your humor; I understand that it's supposed to look kitschy French coquettish cute, but all I can think of when I see this is some poor soul who decided that pulling pantyhose over a wire clothes hanger is a good look. It is not. There is only one individual who can pull this off. Oh, right:

Don't draw inspiration from cartoon characters, Marc (can I call you Marc?). It is bad. Very bad.

Blazoned Blazers

Hello again,
I am positively exhausted. It is as if every particle that makes up my being has been drained out and I am left very hollow, and very fatigued. Therefore today's post is going to be very sparing in the word department.
This outfit was centered around the blazer, I got it a few years ago and just re-discovered it on the floor of my closet (where most forgotten things end up). The material is almost velvet, and though it gives me goosebumps (not in a good way) to touch, it gives the whole outfit a little bit of contrast that kept it more unique. I layered on some gray skinnies and a white t-shirt with a leopard print scarf to keep in interesting. I don't know what inspired the scarf, I wear animal prints approximately as often as I wear hot pink leather mini dresses. (Which is to say never. ) the funny thing about this outfit? On this same day The Tubsters wore the same pants with a black blazer. I guess those with great style dress alike.
And yes, this is me playing hide-and-go-seek with my dog.

enjoy your friday!

The freshest oxygen I’d ever inhale

Hey there, Lloyd speaking,
I don't think enough can be said for the value of a few good songs and nice weather. Although this past week has been slightly hectic (or rather, extremely hectic) I have somehow managed to remain sanguine and optimistic throughout everything. would you like to know how? I simply go outside to enjoy the lovely fall air and listen to the most bouyant, cheerful music I can find (try Little Bribes by death cab for cutie). And for some reason, I have managed. I don't know if can assert that I've been highly productive in any way shape or form. But I have somehow stayed on top of my work (for the most part). So here's to fall. To golden leaves and pumpkin spice lattes.
Oh right, you also wanted to hear about fashion.
Well, I wore this ensemble a couple days ago, I wanted something casual and comfortable that still looked put together. Because I am enjoying the fall weather so much I donned this flowing ecru blouse. To taper the look I added my black vest which coincidentally brought out some black on the shirt. I then kept it simple with these jeans, which were a birthday gift to myself. (There is nothing more valuable then the perfect pair of jeans, and these are it.) I topped the look of with my converse.

Outfit details: shirt- Anthropologie, vest- Urban Outfitters, jeans- free people,

So remember: go outside, enjoy the weather. Its gonna be alright.
Peace out,
Llyod

Urban Playground

Known for cutting edge innovations in a world where absurdity is the norm (helloooo, crazy physics-defying shoes) Balenciaga's newest collection features the leather pants and biker chic urban grunge of that girl at your school who cuts class but has really cool jeans.

Disregarding the crazy mash up of design techniques utilized to create this show of street-warrior fashion, the juxtaposition of fabrics is what makes me drool. Combining recycled, natural, synthetic, whatever, is a feast for the senses that takes the fairly generic wardrobe standby of jeans and a tee to new levels of stunning.

But I'll stop now. Let's just look at the pretty clothes.
